NED- ceasing to run. Why?

I was registering my horse on NED and it stated that they are ceasing to run from end of September 2012.

Anyone know why?

The 'why' probably comes down to money, there is a bit of a discussion about it in latest news (a page or so back)

There was a big petition for them not to close but sounds like it hasn't made much difference... Terrible.
