In the service if the passport issuing bodies don't update it??!?!

I wanted to associate myself with my horse, but I cant as the details were just changed last week and the passport issuer hasn't updated their database on NED since 4th Jan!

Seriously, what is the point? If I wanted to sell him and someone wanted to check on there then it wouldn't show me as the owner!

Could not agree more, my yearling still does not show up on there even though she has had her passport for over a year. On the other hand my 30yo IS on there but I cannot associate myself with her as NED say the date of issue on her passport is incorrect even though it is clear as day on the passport itself:mad:

I have now sent them 3 emails and have not even had the courtesy of a reply - chocolate and teapot come to mind:(

I had my horses freezemarked a few months ago and I've tried to update their records - but I keep being told by the NED computer that their marks already exist (they had micromarks). I've tried 2 emails to NED about this but have no answer yet. My youngster also has the wrong year of birth shown - important as I want her to do age classes and the Futurity. Again, I've had no answer back about this query.

All very frustrating.

One of the problems with a computer database when you set it up is if you do not fully understand the real world of the horse you make basic errors that are very difficult to correct later on. The NED has had a large amount of historic data from the PIOs and the much of this data is incorrect as the PIOs have never been told or required to have been told that you have moved, died, divorced or the horse has died. When you wish to associate with your horse on NED many people do not understand what the passport number is and it is a 15 digit UELN and often use the older numbers the PIOs used 10 years ago for internal reference. When you try to identify a horse the only thing you know is the sex and colour and other information helps to reduce the number of horses so sire or dam, studbook of origin, previous owners and likely spread of the age. So requiring the passport number as an identifier is not particularly useful. The NED team did not have any PIOs on the Board so have in the past little understanding of the running of a studbook or any access to the most successful and comprehensive Equine Database run by serv.it Pferd so it will take some years to get the thing correct.
