Neddie chasing dogs - eek!

One of my neighbours went to walk two of their dogs in the field (we let him walk them in there, he has done for years) and for some reason my welshie decided to run after them and chase them

Luckily the dogs were okay, my neighbour managed to carry the older one and the younger one followed, but I'm really upset over it. They are fab neighbours and Taffi sometimes gurns and runs after them if they are tormenting him but today he was aparently trying to kick them, and Danny was joining in

They are fine with my dog, they just ignore her, but today they just flipped for no reason. They are in a field further from home and there are a lot of dogs there (next to a village) and I'm wondering if a dog has upset them in there

I'm going to get a box of sweets and take it round and apologise for my horse being a twat (you'd think they'd be more grateful, he's the one neighbour who keeps them in constant supply of apples and one night years ago when Taffi let himself out and went for a wander it was that neighbour who found him and fetched him back

) but it's really bothering me.

Does anyone else's horse do this? Help!
 
My warmblood used to chase dogs out of his field. There was a bridleway running along the back of it and people walking their dogs with no control over them used to let them go through the hedge & into his field.

Saw him chase one once - he really meant it, ears flat, teeth bared...but luckily it got back thru the hedge just before he caught it.

Chav owner was standing there waiting to have a go at me, but luckily I was trying to catch him and he then ran in the other direction.

Oddly, this was a really huggy, affectionate horse who used to want to be friends with all other animals - he just didn't like them trespassing on his territory.
 
I think that's it - he usually gurns at sheep and runs at them too but only to get them out of the way.

I just hope he doesn't get into the habit of it as the lambs come up to them fields when they get a bit older and if he does anything to them I will be in trouble

Years ago when my first dog was just a pup, she managed to wriggle her way out of the car and into a field of horses. She was only about 6 months old at the time. Anyway all the horses started chasing her while she unperturbed just ran from pile of horse poo to pile of horse poo and tucking in - the dirty madam. There was me having a heart attack thinking she was about to be trampled or someones horse was going get injured larking about while pup just thought it was a great game. Managed to catch the little minx and pop her back in the car eventually!
 
I have seen dogs get chased by horses many times, although thinking back I have never seen a horse do it completely un-provoked- on each occassion the dog has either run up to the horse, or even just got too close to it.

I have never seen a horse randomly run at a dog nowhere near it?
 
My dads horse hates people going into our field. Our (annoying) nieghbours would climb through our fence at one side of the field to cut the corner. Well they did till Tufty kept chasing them and the dogs! one time I was riding my horse down at the bottom of the field with Tufty still in there and my wee dog decided to join us. ( I didn't know she was out of the house) Then all of a sudden tufty came galloping across the field and kicked Daphne. She was terrified and wouldn't come down to the stables for ages.
 
We were chased by a large rottie the other day and cornered and the rottie was trying to bite the horses' legs - but luckily horses not bothered and the owner turned up and apologised .
 
Chex has a habit of chasing dogs too. He won't bother if they're just standing there but if they're running in his field he'll chase them, threatening to bite them. He does it with sheep too, think its just fun to chase them!
 
We had a footpath running through our paddocks, separated by post and rail either side, and a dog went in and nipped Jazz' nose

She was 'funny not ' around dogs for a while but is much, much better now.Our dogs had always been around her with no problem so it was a shame to say the least.WeCan't say I blamed her. We popped sheep netting along the fence and offset with electric fencing to stop any more 'tresspassers'.

My Fell will chase a dog, more so with big ones, and try to back them into the fences really kicking and lashing out. She's become really close to one of the other horses recently and it's like she tries to keep everything away from the other horse!!It's become quite a problem. Mind you give her a duck or goose and they can eat round her legs or sit on her back!!!!
 
My mare chases my dog, but only my dog & only if I am with her, she really goes for her too, ears flat back, runs at her, trys to kick her all sorts, she is an absolute cow bag. I am pretty sure she is jealous of my dog but she has scared her so much now my dog won't even go in the field with her.
 
For human safety's sake I dont think its a good idea for your friend to walk in your field. You could suggest, that they dont let their dogs off, and only walk around the fencing for a quick escape if needed. I know they are your friends, but if an accident occurred, they could possiblity sue you
