Well. I know a little bit more than I did before!

I don't want to say too much, but turns out a previous owner was done by the RSPCA for cruelty! Sad to say, considering the state he was in, it doesn't really surprise me!
Some of the things I was told also may explain a LOT of his behaviour.
I'm heartbroken, but glad to know at least a little bit more!

His really landed on his feet now though!

Its a shame when you find out these things, I found out about Ruby's past and kind have wished I hadn't, it was very sad but has answered a lot of questions.

Its horrible to know he's suffered in the past, but you have to focus on the fact that he is *yours* now!!

He won't ever be cold/ hungry/ afraid/ hurt by humans again. You can tell by the HUGE progress you have made with him that Ned trusts you and you have a real bond - he knows you're his human soul mate - and he's landed on all four hooves with you. :) you can't change the past, you can learn from it, so this new knowledge might explain some aspects of his personality and behaviour, but don't let it overwhelm the future you have together. Don't dwell on it.

Ned loves you, you love Ned. You've both got your happily ever afters :D :)

What is it about Standardbreds that attract such awful people?

My old one was a hat rack and terrified when I got him as a three year old, and was never quite 'normal', something I put down to having had too many knocks on the head..:(

The latest one was at death's door with not a square inch on her body that didn't have a wound on it, and she wasn't even a year old.

Never look at the past Nah, if his situation had been better you may never have got him. Enjoy and continue to nurture and love him, you have learned huge amounts from Ned, he is a very lucky boy. I love seeing your posts about the boy and I shall look forward to the next!!!!!!

Thank you so much everyone!

I've had another update, from someone who actually knew him personally! (the other informant just knew of the lady) They said they tried to help him, but simply couldn't take him on and they cried with joy when they saw him! I'm so glad this person knows Neddy is safe now and I'm so glad someone tried to help him :)

Though, worryingly I found out he had bad abscesses in his hooves, due to living in knee deep mud :O poor boy! Glad they've never come back!!

You can't change his past but thanks to you he has a very bright future :D have you got any more endurance pleasure rides planned?
