Hello everyone, I'm new (although I've apparently been a member for quite a while!).
I currently loan a lovely mare called Candy, and have done since last Januaryish.

I hadnt ridden for about ten years before this so started right at the beginning, didnt even know how to turn etc! So I learnt pretty fast and was cantering and learning dressage tests before Candy went lame. We kept her in light work just hacking etc aroun local roads and shes now completely sound on bute, but after 3 months of hacking and occasional shooling, I am rubbish!

I really cant afford lessons that I need although Candys owner said shes happy to give me lessons, ~I just feel a bit mean because shes quite busy and i dont want her to feel obligated.

I was wondering if anyone has any advice for me? I ride alone most of the time so cant have someone telling me to even keep my heels down!

I have boks and things but im an activ elearner, i have to do the things to learn them, but i dont want todo them wrong in the first place!

Thankyou for reading any help with be most appreciated!

IMHO, it doesn't matter what level you are at it's always helpful to gave lessons to correct any bad habits.
I would take the owner up on lessons If you really can't afford lessons as improving your riding will help her horse so it's a win win situation. Another thing to try is getting someone to film you riding so you can see what's going on.
But even a lesson every now and then and asking the instructor to give you things to work on could really help, and if there was someone you could share the lesson with it should be cheaper.
Good luck and don't get disheartened. The horse has someone who cares about her which is the most important thing x x x x x x x

Lessons were the best thing I ever did, and yes there are ones you can download but for the life of me can not think what they are called , perhaps someone else can, a friend of mine got hers free from I think a copy of Your Horse, and others were avail to buy :)
