What can I feed our 15hh Welsh pony who is very lazy to give her a bit more pizzazz but she must not put on any more weight. I need to be careful because I only want her more forward going - I definitely don't want something that is jumping out of its skin, spooking etc. What would you recommend?

I'd recommend Red Mills Cool & Cooked, I feed it to Castle and it gives him energy without fizzing him up or putting weight on

Spillers slow release cubes are wonderful for this kind of problem. They should add a little more sparkle, without the weight.

But ultimately the more work your horse does, the more you can feed, the more 'sprakle' they should get.

This time of year is such a bugger for horeses that are good doers, but a little on the lazy side..........

Donkey is currently on racehorse mix and Naf liquid blood (supposed to be like Red Cell) I have seen a little more turbo. but not a lot

Try dodson and horrell performance concentrate. You only feed a small amount so it doesnt put on too much weight and it has a mixture of fast and slow release energy. I used it for a warmblood who was eventing and very prone to weight gain last year and it was great

the last pony i had was very lazy and overweight whatever i did - so we ended up in a vicious circle of neding more energy to get more work from her to work off some weight - in the 5 1/2 years i had her i tried every combination under the sun - the only thing i found that worked without wieght was oats or power mix from spillers x x

Thanks Guys - I have to say I was expecting someone to say D&H Competition Mix (obviously in small quantities) because I thought a quick energy release food is what would be required rather than slow. I had also thought about just oats but wasn't sure if this would be too much for a pony currently just on grass.

if you feed only oats start ith a small handfull then gradually biuld up till you find the correct amount for your pony as they all vary also remember to feed an oat balencer - good luck x x

I've done a really good search on the web and it is amazing the amount of information available. I have decided I am going to give her Baileys Low Cal Balancer which I feed my own horse anyway (has given me excellent results for hoof improvement) and supplement with straight oats.

This is exactly what I feed my prone to fat (but needs a bit of sparkle) warmblood dressage horse. He has thrived on Bailey's Lo Cal balancer and his coat looks amazing. I supplement with oats and oil and it seems to be working well.

What about some oats? I know a lot of people still frown on oats thinking it blows horses minds but it doesn't usually. Just don't give too much of it or he'll get condition instead. One of mine is on soaked oats & alfalfa and I find he's no more crazy than usual yet has a bit more energy.
