Heres a nice normal relaxing post with no mention of of - rescue horses, france, parrelli etc...... lol

I'm in a bit of a delima...... I have been at my current yard for 3 years, it's a massive yard with 100+ horses DIY and full livery. It has lovely schools nad your own storage. Toruble is the grazing is rubbish they are aloud to go out whenever you like but the fields are so over grazed and theres no rotation system so the fields never get a break, basicly theres never any grass and your not allowed to put hay out so the horses get very bored. There have been lots of injuries and I think this is due to this over grazing problem. My horse is always very happy to see me and I think thats because she wants to come in a get some food! The hacking is not excellent either, I basicly moved there as my previous yard didn't have a school and there are quite a few local shows that I could hack to (dont have transport).

Also my horse has just been diagnosed with COPD

and is currently on an inhaler so going out 24/7 would be better for her. She is in at night atm because she wouldn't eat otherwise.

If I did move, I could always move back if it didn't work out as the yard always has spaces. But I know this is not ideal and I don't want to mess my horse around.

So what do you think.... shall I move???

Hi,

You have to do what is best for your horse and yourself. If living out 24/7 is better then i think i would move.

Is there a school near your old yard that you could hire?

Was your horse happy at the old yard?

Good luck.

I think you are probably overanalysing the "messing your horse around" thing. I've found with mine that she's as happy as Larry as long as she has a stable and some hay, and a field to go in by day. Even stressheads settle within a few days.

If you are really anxious to keep your horse from getting stressed, try putting her on Coligone for a few weeks either side of the move. It's a great calmer for those sorts of situations.

My horse is actually very happy at this yard but the lack of grazing is becoming more and more of a problem, I think shes happy just because there are alot of horses about. It's just difficult to bite the bullet.

I would definately think about moving yards if your horse has COPD, so much better for her to be out with good grazing and less horses around. I have never heard of a yard that big

I know it's really hard if you are used to somewhere, amd moving is pretty daunting but once you start looking around and getting into it, you'll probably be glad.
good luck.

Helsb I haven't really looked at other yards yet so dont know pros and cons, I wanted to decide whether to move first really.
I've started looking now though so watch this space!!
Thanks everyone for your advice you have given me the push in the right direction, so I will definatly move!
I'll update you when I've made the choice!!!

Move, I have seen the grazing you have its not exactly ideal! Feel free to pm me if you want, I know a fair few local yards that you could go too.

I would move - most horses cope fine, esp if they will be going out more with more grass

I have found by having my own transport (4wd + trailer) and so being able to travel for lessons etc, that I can keep my ponies on a farm who are fine with them being out 24/7 (my pony has Bone Spavin) and generally have lots of grazing available and stables. I would have struggled to find a livery yard nearby that offered 24/7.

Any chance you could get some transport?

I not botherd about 24/7 t-out really, in at night would be fine, just a field with some grass and we really have none! I'm in West Sussex.
