Hi

Due to a knee injury I am struggling getting on and off the one horse, my Stubbs mounting block is 635 mm high -and just is not quite high enough.
Any one got any other recommendations ?
Ideally it would have a decent size, so I can dismount on to it too

My family had one custom made for me for my 70th, it was very useful for as long as I was still able to ride. I think it cost about €100. do you know any handy person who could do similar for you? I agree though, they are very heavy so you need to find one mounting area and stick to it.

There is this 4-step - pricey but moveable:

Alternatively could you put the existing one on a (sturdy) cut down half-pallet? That would raise it by 10-15cm.

I have a high plastic one due to my spinal issues. Similar to the ones the RDA use. If you Google they will come up on line.
The 3 step ones are usually good though if you are 5.4"" and over .

Any chance you can build one out of breeze block?
I have a breeze block mounting block.
On an old concrete pad from a long pulled down stable, I just begged friends for any they had. I just stacked them carefully in opposite directions for each layer, finishing up with 2 at the top after forming steps up.
I can step over and onto a 16.2 easily. Tho its really used for 14hh lol.

I bought a wooden one from eBay , it was £82 back in 2022 so it’s about £107 now , very sturdy with 3 quite big steps but made it easy to get on bigger horses

Solid, and wide on top. If it's wide you can easily dismount onto it, and it's more stable. Physics says the higher is is the longer/wider it should be. Horses would all benefit from.every yard having an RDA type block like this, if you can step across I stead of using the stirrup even better.

As a saddle fitter I probably "use" mounting blocks more than anyone.

I also have this one for my Belgian cross (not in the pic). They are pricey but I have just bought a second one for a different mounting location and got it cheaper on eBay as it was a factory second. They are solid and don’t wobble. I would love one like Auslanders (!) but am at a livery yard so can’t do that.

If you have physical issues, invest in one of these, worth it in long run!
