Find my self with an unusual Saturday night off. And can't watch hoys since I cancelled sky sports :-(
Just finished reading one day and now looking for a horsey book on kindle. I've read the Sara gruen ones....any recommendations?

Warhorse - can't recommend highly enough.

Pippa Funnell autobiography.

Any of mark rashid's books - considering the horse is the first one. Brilliant story teller about helping problem horses.

When sophie met darcy day - about greatwoods work rescuing race horses and giving therapy to children.

Hope that gives you some ideas :-)

A second vote for "When Sophie met Darcy Day". I read this in two days - couldn't put it down. Really inspirational. I have since passed it on to another horsey friend.

The Byerley Turk...an excellent story of one of the foundation sires of the thoroughbred. Any of Jeremy James' books are fab actually, his travels through europe are an amazing journey.

I don't like a lot of the books in the horsey genre -I hated Horse Heaven - but Jeremy's book are great.

I also loved Pegasus by Robin Mckinley, it's not about horses but pegasi, and it is technically a children's book but I thoroughly enjoyed it and I'm definitely not a child! Don't see the stigma of reading kids books if they are good, enough adults read Harry Potter and Twilight.

Also if you haven't read Black Beauty for a long time, re-read it, it is a truly excellent story.

War Horse is brill too.

Oh my god I feel dreadful that I've forgotten hovis!!! Although to be fair the OP did say kindle books and hovis hasn't gone e-book yet (he wouldn't fit :-))

I'm going to add another one for Fiona...her books really pull out the emotional stops for me. I really buy in to her characters! She's great fun and I get that feeling from her books too. I also really like Jojo Moyes...there is of course Jilly Cooper if you like just plain silly and outlandish. Can be quite fun.

Another vote for 'War Horse', or any of the subsequent Michael Morpurgos (Farm Boy etc)

Also 'Polo' and 'Riders' by Jilly Cooper - guilty pleasure!

One of the girls in my class (Year 5)* is reading 'Pegasus' by Robin Mckinley and she thinks I would enjoy it. When she finishes, she's going to lend it to me - I'll let you know!

My surprise good horsey read was Monty Roberts autobiography ('The Man Who Listens to Horses') - his life is like a movie (would make a good movie, actually), and surprisingly well written! (Going to see him on Friday and will get an autographed copy to re-read!)

*I am a teacher, not a 9 year-old!! ;)

The Horse Whisperer (of course), a cracking read, and going back to childhood (but still great books), the Silver Brumby series, by Elyne Mitchell - they stand up for the adult reader.

Jane Smiley's A year at the races is good, about her own racehorse, though slightly questions her insight at times.

If you are talking about horsey autobiographies, I don't think you can get past Lucinda Green's books - the ghost written biogs of Mary King, Pippa et al fade in comparison to Up, up and away, Regal Realm and Four square - great writing.

Caroline Akrill's Almost a Horsewoman is hilarious :)
