Need a new bridle for my new boy but dont have the money to fork out on something really decent like stubben or albion was going to get a collegiate but an h&h archive thread stopped me in my tracks and apparently jw streches to...! ahhhh want a niceish one though anyone used oliver townend? any ideas appreciated!!

I`ve got a Barnsby comfort bridle...really nice leather, left it out in rain and it took the beating it had....

definately Jeffries - everyone I know with them swears by them!!

I love the falcon padded one,

the falcon one not padded is about 100 i think

Have a look on ebay - you will get a Stubben for under £100 on there. Yesterday I was bidding for one but lost out unfortunatley. It was brand new and had a label on saying £139.99. It went for about £70 in the end. I only didn't bid again cos the auction ended at midnight - way past my bedtime!

thanks all just looked on ebay but not much to fit his tiny pony sized head(he's a wee bit out of proportion!) used to have a jefferies IR but its massive on him will def check it out and keep them coming! :)

exactly the size they are or slightly generous

was told cheap bridles skimp on amount leather so are smaller so the jeffries are exactly the size they are

There is a saddlery shop on ebay called saddlery4u its brilliant! they make their own padded bridles really nice for very reasonable prices! best of luck x

just brought a jeffries wemberly black cob bridle was £50 bnwt so very exciting!! thanks guys will post a pic of lovely sully wully with it when it arrives! great advice thanks all!!!!!!!

Recently got a collegiate from equestrian clearance and I love it - identical to my other horses Elevator, I hadn't read anything on collegiate so did know to avoid however its lovely so far

I have several, Jefferies,Sabre and some made for me. However, I only ever buy the head and cheek pieces as inevitably you will want/need a different noseband to the one supplied with a complete bridle, and same with browband and reins. This way, I have got a nice reliable head/cheeks and can the rest I need/like/want either of the same brand or different. Once oiled and soaped the colours rarely look any different either.

I have a Dever Ascot Bridle which I use for hunting (with a headstall added to make it a double) - reasonably priced and quite decent - must be 7 years old this year and still looks smart, but does show wear on the inside, around the buckles and where the bit sits.

I also have an ancient Jeffries Hunter bridle which must be 20ys old now - well worth every penny I spent on it all those years ago. Still soft, supple and comes up smarter than the Dever with fewer signs of wear and tear.

I don't think really that a "cheap" bridle is worth the money you spend. I'd personally rather save up a bit longer and get a better bridle.
