My lovely farrier, who has looked after my horses for years, has decided to retire. I feel very sad, because apart from him being very good at his job, I looked him as a person and will miss our little chats and his advice and wisdom. So ... now I need a new foot person to look after the feet of a 16 year old highland who's never been shod in his life. Do I look for a barefoot trimmer or another farrier? Starting from scratch, how do you choose a farrier? Not sure where to start.

(I live near Burton on Trent so any thoughts or recommendations would be welcome either by reply or PM ...thanks)

Ask your existing farrier for his recommendation. He will know everyone in the area and he may well have trained some of them.
