i went to me kirsty today to go for a ride wi the girlies, when i got to the top of the road i was shocked to see her not riding but leading kuk's and she was covered in dirt
confused.gif
she had fallen off in the middle of the road and given herself quite a bash

when i asked her what happened she said a bike came up from behind her with no warning.... i assumed motorbike but NO it was a pushbike. the gy riding it had not made any noise on approach ( most people round here will let u kno they are coming) the guy pulled up beside kuk's bum almost touching her and yelled "BIKE!" as loud as he could. kuk's reared then bucked throwing her onto the hard ground

the man turned round to look said nothing and CYCLED OFF!!!!! i was like wat an absolute u kno what!!!

she was very good, and got back on once i was with her and we continued our ride

i just thought the man was so selfish to leave a 14 year old girl in the middle of the road after he scared her pony

so raging!!!

What a total jerk to leave a 14 year old and not check she was OK. Hope she heals well.

what an absolutefjdkhgnskbn s\kHNBsr:KBNsL

Some people are sooo stupid, today there were people orientering on our ride today, and they thought it was fun just to run up right behind the ponies, luckily noone got hurt.

Hope your friend is ok, and not to bruised

Was he a road cyclist or mountain biker? Was he in "all the gear"? Did he have the name of a local cycle club on his jersey. If so contact them and explain what happened and ask that they communicate to all their members the correct and safe way to approach horses and that as ambassadors of their sport they should treat other road users with respect.

Even if there wasn't a name on his jersey, it might be worth an email or letter to the local cyclists groups anyway to highlight the issue on the off chance that he is a member and also to the local paper.

I'm sure that this is largely an education issue (apart from the not checking your friend was unhurt, that is unfogiveable) cyclists don't realise how silently they approach and that this can startle. There is also debate within the cycling community about how best to communicate their presence to other road/bridlepath users. Some use a bell or horn, but many think this is rude, some shout bike or excuse me, some have deliberately squeeky brakes, or whistle to themselves when in busy areas!

I think the appropriate thing is to call out excuse me from a distance away.

Bear in mind that this cyclist may well have been feeling cross that your friend was blocking the way, not paying attention to what was going on behind her and didn't move over to let him past. There are two sides to every story and when riding in public you should always be alert enough to know if something approaches from behind.

If he did have a Peebles Cycling Club top on then she should speak to Brian Beattie at RH Millers as he is high up in the cycling club. They have already caused an accident with a horse this year and sent us a link to their website from our RC site so that we'd know when they had big events on. This area is an absolute nightmare with all the mountain bikers as well as road cyclists now, I'm not blaming them but I think they forget we are there too. I now have both my horses decked out from head to foot in Hi Viz, as much for cyclists as cars!

He wants a dam good beating!! Little sh*ts think that riders are toffy nosed snobs. Even if we were there is no need for such dangerous behaviour. He wants reporting to the police if she ever sees him about again to get a description

Hope she is ok
