Need advice and help urgent!

I have a 15 year old gelding, warmbloodX. he suffers from arthritis which causes him too be very stiff. About a week ago we found blood in his wee and called out the vet, who put him on a weeks worth of antibiotics and bute for the arthritis. We later found out that he wees normally and clear and then the blood comes at the very end. He doesn't seem too be in any pain and is eating normally- any ideas what it could be? Had the vet back out and he's going too do an ultrasound off his bladder.
He was a different horse on bute and was back too his old self again, but now I no the side effects off this Im not too keep on it! Have thought about Devils claw but have also heard about that and the digestive system. So have looked into the supplement 'naturebute' which is meant too work just as well but kinder too him stomach. Any other suggestions or advice? Want him too be happy again :-(

Danilon is supposed to be kinder on the digestion, and more suitable for long term use.

The side effects are usually outweighed by the benefits of having a more comfortable active horse, some of the herbal remedies have side effects about which little is known as they are not tested in the same way.
As long as he only requires a low dose to keep him happy I would keep him on it and take to low risk of it doing him any harm, most vets will say that horse will die from unrelated issues long before the pain relief has a negative impact, except in a few very sensitive horses which may respond adversely and have to be taken off of it.

this. I have kept older horses comfortable on bute with no problems. If you can get away with 1 a day I would use it as I have found it more effectvie than the herbal remedies. If he can be stabilized on 1 then possibly you can cut back to half a day when the weather is better. I feel the relief and comfort it brings to the horse far outweighs other considerations.

I have also used magnetic boots successfully on some horses, so that bute could be reduced.
