I would really appreciate your advice on my horse with minor lymphangitis. He is still able to be ridden and jumped. Some people that don't know anything about lymphangitis and think the horse should not be ridden and shouldn't leave barn property. I don't agree, because I know of horses who have shown Acircut with this desease.

I bought Calvin and the day after he got home, he came in with a swollen leg. Two days later the leg had two abscesses and he was very sore. We dressed the leg and kept it clean. Soon the abscesses were healed but the leg was still swollen. The vet came out and we then put him on Buet and daily excersize, we were told to start with lunging then work out way back to normal work. - As the vet recommended. He is now not sore at all, and the leg is only slightly swollen. I just have a few questions below.

. He is an of the track thoroughbred who was diagnosed with lymphangitis 5 months ago. He is not at all sore on the leg, but it is still slighty swollen. The swelling goes down slightly with excersize. He is in a stall standing all night with no wraps (doesn't cause a problem) and is turned out in the morning, then excersized once daily.

I have a horse show three hours away this coming weekend. I have never wrapped the leg before, but with previous horses I wrap all four legs for long trailer rides. I am not sure what to do with him because I don't want wrapping to hurt the swollen leg or not wrapping hurt it as well. I have cotton wraps with a track wrap, or shipping boots. Or no wraps on the back legs at all.

What would you recommend ?

If the horse is fit enough to be ridden and jumped there should be no pain in the leg otherwise he would be lame and should not be working anyway so no reason to think putting bandages on will cause him any pain, that's my take on it anyway.
So I would bandage him for the journey just make sure they are put on carefully and have a good thick pad under so no risk of causing pressure points , if he was mine I would bandage routinely when brought in each evening as well to aid the circulation which may help reduce the swelling.

I also recommend getting cleavers and marigold, herbal supplement, this really worked when I had a mare with lymphangitis, the leg went down completely in just a few weeks of using it.
