5 Months ago my mare impalled herself on a gate on her left flank and ripped a 10inch long by 6 inch gash - the vet came and stitched it back up and she foaled 4 days later !!

All has seemed to be fine and it healed well without a real scar but she has always been unlevel on that leg when trotting - its not causing her pain though !! she can still jump the 5 bar gate !!

I phoned the vet today wanting some tips on bringing her back into work - then my worst nightmare he told me she shouldnt be lame on that leg and wanted to come and see her as soon as possible !!

I asked him if there could be a chance of me never being able to ride her again - he said there was !!

She is 13 next year and I would love to be able to ride her a few more years till she has to be retired and breed some more babies but i guess i may not have a choice !! xx

I do sometimes wonder if they give you a worse case scenario just to prepare you mentally. It may be that some really good physio/hydrotherapy/massage etc might help her and get her back to how you want her.

I know that wound looks really tidy but my goodness I took a sharp intake of breath at the stitching

It must have been nasty at the time -
good luck for the visit

Vet is coming next Tuesday afternoon xx

That looks scary - I don't know why but I have an impression I read somewhere about it! Did you have a feature in a horsey mag about this mare and a foal?
Anyway, healing vibes your way and fingers crossed she comes back fully sound.
