Hi, i have two younsters (rising 3 and 8 months old) And recently been looking for a riding horse as im bored waiting for my eldest to grow lol!
he is a gypsy vanner, beautiful cob, very kind eye. Just wary of people (nothing im not used to tbh! Having had many youngsters so far who have come to me wild, little bit of trust and patience goes along way) Because this boy is to ride, and im not 100% confident but not scared of hurting my self as falling off doesnt bother me, but my sister wants to learn to ride and this is where i question it! me i dont care about but i dont want my sisters confidence nocked...athough shes in love too, i have asked a friend who is better at riding to bring him back to work, but start from scratch and she is happy to do so...
Long story short the 1 thing that worries me is they can only ride him bare back, and he throws bucks in and hissy fits with a saddle *currently ridden in a 18" treeless i have a 17" treeless (im thinking because hes got a short back and its on his flanks perhaps this is why?) * He isnt showing signs of a bad back but the constant riding, and being broken in young. He is a blank canvas, forward going, happy to follow, 100% leadrein which is good for my sister, but not so good for me, no idea how he is on his own but being a baby just being bought in to work im not sure. If it helps he was broken in by gypsies so literally just jumped on and well yea! He is headshy when a bridle is concirned but hes not a big horse so doesnt bother me, im happy to work! repitition doesnt bother me in the slightest. (imm thinking perelli see if he works well with this)
I know hes possibly completly unsuitable, But to be honest, all my horses have been and they have turned out to be fantastic and amazing little ponies. But its just getting there.... and the whole sister issue, at the moment ide sooner put her on my colt whos never been sat on appart from her son (he didnt batter an eye lid) as hes safer. (this is a possibility of us doing this as she is pregnant so cant ride till after september any way and i have told her to have lessons before considering buying anything and she is looking in to this, as shes only ever just sat on a horse (police horse on holiday)
All i want is oppinions on this saddle issue and possible ideas what it could be...as bad back does worry me... But he isnt showing signs of it (muscle wastage slant of the hind quaters) legs are clean, and not lame.
she wants £800 i offered her £600 due to the work he needs done, he is a gelding, is she asking too much or am i being out of order and offering to little!? Just need an honest oppinion and forums are th ebest way for it being we dont know each other
Sorry about the essay! its just important i get as much info i can in!
