Need help...what would you pay for...

The lady I ride with has a horse for sale that I have fallen head over heals with, when I asked her how much she wanted for him, she asked me what I would pay for him!!! I have no idea!!!! I don't want to offer her to little and offened, but neither do I want to pay over the odds for him. He is a 9yo, Haflinger, 14.3 been there and done it xc, sj the lot, good to shoe, load, happy hacker with or with out company. he has only been light hacked for the past 6 months and needs bring back into work. What do we think?

Replying just to bump your post - I'd guess around £2K?

Probably best to look on the various horse sale sites for similar ponies and see how much they are, then you can offer a fair price based on what other people are asking for their haffies.

I'd think more than £2k. There are two Haffs at our pc that win in everything from SJ to showing - they are so versatile, and great for older kids, so would probably get a good price... Tell her to give you an idea. Don't let your heart rule your head though..x
 
Thanks for the advice, my next question is, do I look ok on him. He is a little smaller that I was looking for, bareing in mind I am carrying a little extra weight (slimming world and riding helping with it :o )

You look absolutely fine on him. What a handsome little chap, hope you can agree a price which suits both you and the seller. The grin on your face and the soft relaxed look on his face says to me the two of you are made for each other!
 
To be honest, the weight is not an issue at all (you don't look heavy anyway!) but you look quite tall on him, so if you're wanting to compete, you could touch the jumps with your feet, and being too tall on your horse can lead to bad riding habits - ie lifting heals as theres no pony where your leg aids should be.. so you could get marked down on position for dressage/ equitation... Just something to ponder. If you just wanted to hack, theres no problem at all..x
 
Cute fellow! I'd go for him if I were you - but I'm impulsive and don't ponder things. He's a great age, and if he does everything you want and is sound and right there for the taking, that's invaluable. Saves trawling the countryside and being disappointed. You should research the online horse ads for a similar sort, and then you'll know what a fair price would be to offer. Good luck! ;)
 
I've been looking at an ad for something very similar, she's 14yrs though and she's on at £1400, she is a private sale but through a dealer not sure if this makes a difference, yet another one i've seen is slightly smaller at 14.2hh 13yrs and on at £2000

Had a good look around and some are around 2k others are up for 5k+, should also mention he comes with tack, and the field he is in! for £60 a month complete with mini shetland for company. was also thinking with him only being 9 when my kids are a little older (5 and 2 at mo) he would be a good first pony. Its daft really because I am going to buy him is just a case of sorting the money out, haven't felt this way about a horse since my loan horse when I was 14!! :):):)
