first of all hi because i'm new!

i have an 8mnth old tri colour border collie who i would love to do heelwork to music with but the one move that is creating a problem is sending him away and the telling him down!

he just bolts back towards me and lies down at my feet!!!!!!!
it is a good thing although i would quite like him to do it away from me so i could possibly turn him into a working border

any tips????

Hello!

I can help with HTM.. sorry... not sure if anyone on here does it? Maybe they do?

But just wondering how are you training it? I use a clicker when training my dog.

Also - what command do you give for wait? or Stay? can you not use that and then give the down cue?

Sounds like you dog thinks that send away means run away and then come back to feet - you might need to retrain with another cue?

Sorry - I might be totally wrong - as am not sure how yoyu have trained it in the first place?

try using something that he needs to run to and stop like a blanket or something. maybe up a treat on it so it encourages him to stay there do it on the lead to start with and when he gets that try off the lead. hope that helps. remember he is still very young so try not to do too much with him
