Hi all
I hope you can help me making a decision on what colours to go for for Taz. I'm going to do a hack class with him (as he's an overgrown show pony!) but don't have a coloured browband.
I saw this website and think they have some great colours. http://www.horseplay.biz/colours.htm

Do you know anywhere that does good choice for coloured browbands (already made up if possible?)

It's to go on this beautiful buckskin head!

Hope you can help.
I like orange or aqua/turquoise on him but it won't go with me tweed! Well orange might :)

Ok I've just had a look and apparently i should be in navy?! It's only a local show. He is in black tack, i wear tweed and a navy hat. I have a yellow and blue polka dot tie or a navy and white spotted tie. So i'm a bit lost.
I don't know whether to go with black in the coloured browband or navy. given all of this info.

Help!

Dont panic, if it is a local show it is more than likely others will not be turned out absolutely correctly:)
If you do not have a plain navy jacket wear the tweed, he should have a coloured browband and your tie should be of similar colours. A blue, yellow and gold browband with blue and yellow tie could look smart.

He looks a bit chunky for hack classes, riding horse would be my choice if there is one, the tweed is correct for RH which may help.

All the suggestions for buying browbands are good, there will be a huge choice.

I agree with Be positive - if it is a local show no one will be that worried as long as you are smart and tidy :) Re the photos of turnout from HOYS bear in mind that this is a championship show and the riders have dressed accordingly in 'evening dress'. For non-championships the correct turnout would be shirt and tie, navy jacket (ladies) or tweed (men) and a navy riding hat (or bowler for men).

Back to the browbands most people have red included. It really does show up better than any other colour on the go round and getting noticed (for the right reasons) from the start is the name of the game....

Good luck at your show

Your tie andbrowband don't have to match - they are miles apart from each other, and unless you choose a really unusual colour, they won't clash anyway!

Lots of the browband companies are away at shows this time of year, so you may find it difficult to get a response. It is always best to talk to them - they will ask questions and work out the best colour for you. But they are NOT cheap - so be prepared to pay in excess of £30 which is a lot for a bit of fun ...

Also, you need to trim your horse's heels as they are a bit too hairy to be suitable for a hack or riding horse class. He has way too much bone to be a hack, but for a local show they usually have hacks and riding horses in together, so I would call him a riding horse, stick with the tweed and have done with it!

Main thing is to enjoy it - and however much you spend on a browband, it is not going to make any real difference on the day!!!!

The horse in the ridden pic isn't Taz, it's Mr Darcy I think who was a section D? Taz isn't as heavy as that iirc although he is still heavier than your typical hack so I agree riding horse might be better Law? How the hell are you anyway?

Hello!! *waves* and well spotted!
The bay is Darcy who is welsh D and not a hack at all! :)

Taz is a warmblood (warmblood, tb/cob) but he's small with stick legs :)

He looks different all grown up  I remember a hairy baby! I'd still put him in a riding horse class though or can you do both?

Prettyyy pony ;)

If you really want to match, there are some options in a green/cream style. These colours in themselves don't 'pop' but with some bling they will ;)

Or you can go for the classical champion colours, red, blue, white. With the colour these give, you can go a bit more understated in the bling department.

IF you are a creative soul, there are plenty of places that sell DIY browband making equipment. It's pretty fun, and can work out a lot cheaper, and you get exactly what you want :)

The great thing about browbands is you can be so personal and creative with them. As FMM says, a browband will not make a huge difference!

But on the black/navy debate I would 100% avoid black. It's generally a no no in the showring. It'll be fine at local level, but if you ever wanted to step up a level it would not be ideal.

Thanks for all the help and opinions on here :)
In the end I opted for a navy/gold/turquoise browband. Navy jacket in the riding horse class, tweed in the riding club horse class. the others in the riding horse class were in tweed. I also had the wrong tie in my hat bag so had to make do with yellow :-(
I asked the judge after the class if she felt he was in the right class and she said he was fine in the riding horse class but if the show had a small hunter he could go in that.

Lovely pic, looks like you both enjoyed the experience! If you venture out again, pop your (very neat!) plaits on the other side of his neck, the offside. I don't agree with the small hunter comment,he just hasn't enough bone!

Cute - and I like the choice of browband colour.

In the spirit of the 'plaits on the offside' post, please bang his tail too - it really would make all the difference to the overall picture. He's a lovely little horse (but I also don't think he's a small hunter!).

I've just experienced the joys of perfecting the whole picture for one of the arabs I worked with - first one we'd shown from home, chestnut gelding and only had a small blaze so didnt stand out in a ring. (I know yours is a hack but im sure the principals are the same) After talking to several to producers/judges the main thing that came across is that EVERYTHING has to match: browband, tie, tweed, hair accesories for ladies.
We had one custom made by pretty ponies for £60, gorgeous and very bling.
Took us all season to perfect the look, good luck and enjoy it!
