Hello, I went to my first county show on sunday, horse went lovely in the go around and i was very pleased with her as she was forward going but not tanking around or anything, stood for the confo part and trotted up well. Then comes the bad part! The ride judge got on her and she was very lazy, to be fair to my horse, the ride judge didnt have his legs on her sides once and when asked for canter they just clicked and threw the reins at her so im not surprised she was a tad confused. Now for my question..

Im not here to complain about judgeing at all, i just want to know how to prepare my horse for this (My dad has suggested teaching her to read minds but i cant see this working lol!) Iv had a fair few different riders on her at home from very experienced to almost compleate beginners and she will happily take them around no problems. So what else can i do?

Thanks very much or reading and im sorry about the appalling spelling as im in a bit of a rush lol! :)

The best thing to do is get as many different people to ride her as possible. Tall, short, skinny, heavy. The more people she has to ride her, the more she will learn that she needs to go for whoever is on her.

Echo the above really. Just a case of loads of different people riding her - ask them to ride a show etc. Maybe also ask people to ride her slightly differently too - e.g. old fashioned "legs up the shoulders" style etc.

Also, how fit is she - it was quite hot at the weekend - was she a bit tired and warm?? Also, were you stood for a long time in the line - had she switched off? Not sure how you can prepare for that - maybe do part of a schooling session - stop and have a rest then start again and insist on forwards straight away?

I was also told you should be able to do all the transitions riding with just your left hand and your voice... Basically turn your horse into something that goes on autopilot... It isn't actually that hard to do... They don't have to be able to do anything fancy just walk trot and canter on each leg with the minimum of fuss.
