http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=379165
vet said to bandage the bottom of her leg to stop the swelling going down to her leg or it will cause problems, shes on a sachet and a half a day of anti biotics and the wound has dried up nicely so its very unlikly it will need stitching! but i went down this morning to clean them up(both of them have cut there legs!!) and re do graces bandage and out on on prince for the day. and the swelling has moved down from the cut to the inside of her hock! now the bottom of her leg is bandaged so its got no where to go but it cant just stay at her hock, should i bandage her hock?
sorry they're big, im to lazy to faf around resizing them!
the lump on the right hand side is the swelling on the inside of her hock!

I would make a quick phonecall to your vet tbh. Has it scabbed yet? Is there a lot of heat?

I know hocks are difficult to bandage but I would have had the whole leg bandaged for a few days after the incident.

Not dissing what your vet has said, just saying what I would have done through experience!

iv left him a message and explained whats happening, think il have him out monday anyway to check them both unless there is a big improvment, its not overly hot! the wound hasnt scabbed its just dried out, its very clean, princes on the other hand, his is weeping but the gamgee drew some gunk out of it yesterday so will change it again nite!

Perhaps try getting the hose on the dried up one for 20 mins twice a day. I would have been doing that too.

Glad it's dried up though. If it's dry and looks clean, no heat or discharge she should be ok. The puffiness is probably fluid buildup. Is she sound that you could walk her a bit too, help to move it on a bit!

With Prince could you put a dry animalintex over it over night? Might draw some more out.

I bet those horses can't wait to get those bandages off in this heat!

ETS isn't it nice having a vet you can ask without being charged ;)

yeah thats another problem! it's blooming boiling and they have got fleece bandages on!! poor buggers. my vet is fantastic. hes been coming out for the last 6 weeks for princes lameness and he having more nerveblocks on thursday, hel be fed up of me soon haha! bet he thinks oh its her again :D hes good enough to post anti biotics and danilon out to me when i need it which is handy coz most want to come out first.
think il do that with the animalintex 2nite with some vet wrap just over the wound, might stop the swelling getting any worse overnight to for prince.

i left him a message as his phone was off which is understandable on a saturday, wasnt expecting to hear from him till monday but he has just text me telling me to walk her for 20-25 minutes. think il just walk both of them together round the lanes!
