My horse has been lame, we thought it was the saddle so the saddler took my old one away (it was too narrow) and fitted and adjusted (reflocked) a lovely one today. But my horse is still lame.

I now have no saddle, and a lame horse: my vet is going to want to see him ridden as that is when he is the worst. The saddler fitted a £400 dressage saddle, but I have also seen a £390 adjustable jum psaddle I was going to get aswell.

I don't understand how it is that only *I* can find myself in these situations. I need to buy a saddle, for a lame horse. I don't have a dressage girth for dressage saddle (loaned till wednesday) and vet is coming on Monday, so I would have to buy other saddle tomorrow.

I just don't know what to do :'(

I don't know anyone with a treeless saddle.

The saddle fit beautifully, he altered the flocking so it was perfect, but is is still uncomfortable to be ridden, so it can't 'just' be a saddle issue. He's left it with me until wednesday to make up my mind, so I can ride in it for the vet on monday (though I'm going to have to buy a dressage girth) but fter that I need to make a decision, which I can't.

If I buy this saddle, I won't be able to use it on another, whilst I could with an adjustable, but then I don't know if the adjustable would fit him anyway. I'm really stuck. It's just that "this would only ever happen to me" feeling. NOBODY else would find themself in this situation. Poo.

I'm confused - you bought a saddle & now don't have it?

I would get the vet to come anyway. If your horse is lame then he is in pain somewhere & that needs sorting out.

Can you borrow a saddle or a dressage girth? Or can you get a girth from somewhere tomorrow?

Ah - ok - so the problem is not the vet, it is that you will have to make a decision on the saddle you want to buy when your horse is lame.

Is the horse on trial to you? or have you just bought him?

How lame is he?
Can you ask the vet's opinion when you see him on monday?
He might be able to shed some light on the lameness and advise you then.

Not really sure why you are so cross about this?

I'm not sure if I'm being really thick, but you brought a new saddle before getting the vet to check the horse?

Even if your old saddle was causing some issues buying a new saddle isn't going to magically make your horse sound and the very least there will be some bruising.

I'd keep your appointment on Monday and see if someone on your yard or a firend can lend you a girth for your horse to be ridden. See what the vet says and go from there before making any big choices.
