situation has developed over a couple of days and would appriciate some advice as to what to do.

One of my fellow liveries wants to move her horse into a paddock (yet to be created) within the field that my horses are in. She approached me over it over the weekend and i told her no. My yard owner was away for the weekend.

My reasoning for not wanting this to take place is that my mare is currently on high dose steroids. the drugs make her hullicinate and make her become very spooky and unpredictable even dangerous. My usually calm placid horse becomes aggressive and has now twice gone for me when 'high' on these drugs. there is no alternative available for her either. this combined with the fact that my youngster has just turned into a thug and the fact that she and her husband are not the most knowledgeable or confident horsey people makes me say no. She also has a 5 year old son who would also be going through the field to get to their horse.

our horses do not get on at the best of times and have already gone for each other through the fence a couple of times so leading hers through mine would be a recipe for disaster even without the other issues imho.

my issue is that the YO has just come back from holiday and is demanding that i allow her to move her horse into the field! So my question is who is responsible for any vets fees ect if a horse or worse someone was to get hurt as a result? I have made my position very clear and will do so again tomorrow but im not sure what else i can do.

the field im in is the closest to the yard and she cant be bothered to walk to the further away fields. My horses there so everyone has to drive past them (along the driveway) and so any problem would be picked up really quickly as my mare has been really really poorly we need to know quickly if she is going downhill.

Its really up to the YO what goes where. Perhaps you've upset the YO by making decisions that weren't yours to be made?? Perhaps calm down, then go and speak to the YO and explain that you are worried about these other people getting hurt, its not that you don't want to share..

I would want your horse sectioned off well away from everything else though. If I was the YO and I was creating this paddock, I would be putting another gate in for her to use so that she doesn't have to go past your horse.

I think you are correct. In the past I have had problems with sharing a divided field with not so experienced liveries. I would also worry about their 5yo son.
With winter coming horses don't tend to want to be out and lack of grass they get bored. I would perhaps explain about problems with gate and your mare being a nonsense when they go through the field. Also he effect it will have on your mare or their horse when one comes in before the other.
Maybe ask that a gate is put in or a strip for them to walk round. Or could they have the first bit of field and you the second - so you go through their field.
If not would it be poss for them to move you to another paddock?

I think your priority is your mare and her health. However YO does have to be fair - but if it's just pure laziness then I don't find that right.
I would also agree that YO does need to remain in control so maybe you should have not told other livery no and waited and been a bit diplomatic and discussed with YO your concerns first.

Well it is totally up to the yard owner.

As for liability really your horse got hurt your vet bill her horse her bill.
Regardless of whos fault it was.
Injury to person, well there problem.

cant you make a gated area so neither has to walk through the others horses part?

That's the first I've heard of a horse hallucinating!!

Anyway, tbh, I would think it's up to the yard owner, and if it's your mare that's posing the major problem, then maybe it's your mare that needs sectioning off for her own and other people's safety.

Hope you get it sorted.

If the new paddock is fenced off on one side it will a) use less posts and rails and b) be safer as no horses or people will have to go into the others patch. Maybe when your YO or these other liveries price up post and rail fencing and a new gate, they'll think again...
