Right I shall begin - purchased a 16hh TB mare a couple of years ago - she had been purchased for a teenager and had basically scared her to death so parents were giving her away or she was going to the meat man. Her background was point to point - owned by the same family from birth till the age of 6 when she sold to england. The breeders have said she was always 'funny' when ridden - wouldnt elaborate on this but was an absolute angel to handle. I saw her on the lunge when I viewed her but didnt see her ridden. Over the 18 months following I spent alot of time eating dirt, flying through the air like superman and generally spending more time off her than on her but we got to a point where I could do a reasonable novice test, jump a 2'9'' course and hack out in a relaxed fashion. When I first purchased her she found schooling very stressful (broncing, bucking, deer leaping, disunited in canter),hacking = jogging and trot pole dyslexic. Her natural tendency is to not want to take a contact and will avoid this by ducking behind or pulling the rein down and forward. Put alot of this down to greeness, lack of work and generally not knowing her arse from her elbow. I eventually had to put her out on loan due to issues with my other horse - she went out for 6 months to a girl I knew on a prof showjumping yard and has come back basically like the horse I first purchased - tense ,buzzy and unhappy being ridden. Obviosuly I am not happy that she hasnt been ridden correctly and she has been back with me for a couple of months now and I can't seem to make any headway with returning her to what I managed to get her to. The disunited canter is back, bucking, jogging round a whole hacking route
She had physio treatment for a neck injury while she was out on loan but the loaneers wont admit to anything and said that the physio stated she was ok to be ridden again and I have heard various things that it happened from her pratting around in the field to they puller her over on the lunge to she fell in the school while jumping. She came in lame behind from the field a week ago and has been on restricted turnout (basically a lunge pen) and no improvement. She has always had a jumpers bump and its always been hard to round her bottom up between this bump and the top of her tail (very sloped). Basically I am wondering if this lameness is what has been brewing for the past couple of years and why she has on ocassions shown such extreme behaviour when ridden - she is book in for the vet on weds so hopefully some answers but wondered if anyone had any thoughts. Saddle and teeth up to date ,back due ina couple of months, tip top feet from the outside and shod regulary (6 weeks )
