Alisha strained her coffin joint a few weeks ago, she has been to vets to have it nerve blocked, had xrays which were completely normal and she had a steroid injection. She is 100% sound in a straight line and on a large circle, but was lame on a small circle 2 weeks ago (not allowed to lunge her on small circle again until vet comes out in a couple of weeks).
She has been on box rest up until sunday, when she went out for an hour in the evening. The vet has given me ACP to give her before I turn her out which is really helping, but 2 questions. Does ACP have any side effects if you use it for too long? Would it be better to keep her on her own until vet next comes out? Vet I got ACP from wasn't too keen on her going out but she has been so stressed in her stable - box walking and weaving which she has never done before, and leaping around in there that i though it would be better. Sorry for long post, just want to check i'm doing the right thing

All the liveries I have spoken to on my yard seem to think it is better for her to be out than running round and round her stable!

I use a small dose of ACP (in paste form) if my mare has been on box rest for any length of time. The paste is quite good because you can give just a little bit, just to take the edge off. Works fine for Flick.
I personally would prefer for my horse to be out if that is where she's happier, with the proviso that she goes out calm and stays calm.
Also, a friend gave me a piece of advice that's proved very useful: turn them out hungry. That way, they'll be more interested in the grass than looning around with their mates.
I do hope your horse comes right soon, and neither of you is too stressed out in the process! Mine has just come sound after 5 weeks (3 on box rest) so I know exactly what you are going through!!

Thanks, she is a lot calmer when she is out and at the moment i think she is so pleased to be out with grass that she hasn't really thought about charging round! She had a little trot round yesterday but don't think I left her long enough for the ACP to kick in! I have got the tablets for her, and am giving her 7 a day which seems to be just about the right amount. Glad to hear your horse has come sound, have got vet coming out in three thursday's time to reassess her, hopefully she will be sound by then!
