Hi all, wonder if you could help a friend of mine, very sadly her father was rushed into hospital yesterday, he had a heart attack and it looks as though they are going to have to do a by pass as three of the arteries in his heart are blocked and the other one partially blocked.

The issue is that he has lots and lots of animals, some small furries and tortoises but also two dogs, a husky and a bassett. He is absolutely devoted to these dogs, walks them three times as day and they really are his life. One daughter who is 6 months pregnant and her sister and I have combined our dogs so that the fathers dogs can live with the daughter who is 6 months pregnant and her mother. However this is not really sustainable for the amount of time that he will not be able to look after them properly, also she is going to have a new baby and has enough problems walking her own small dogs let alone two more and her mother can not walk them as she has problems with her back.

Basically whilst her father is ill they are going to need help with these dogs, they are pretty breed typical so are not the type of dogs to laze about all day. We are looking into dog walkers however this does work out terribly expensive and also means that they have to stay where they are with the daughter.

Does anyone know of any organisations that may be able to help? I would hate to suggest to her rehoming them as when he is better he could look after them again but it may have to be an option.

Any ideas or options would be welcome. It really is a sad situation and I am just trying to get ideas for her.

Many thanks

Try the Cinnamon Trust, I think they help out in cases like this. Otherwise what about contacting breed rescues to see if they could help with short term fostering.

What a sad situation,I hope the gentleman recovers.
We had a dealing with the Cinomen trust (as in their was a family dispute and we ended up with a cinomen trust dog) , I think but I could be wrong they ask for the owners to leave a will to them in order for them to help, like inhertiance when the owner passes, like I say dont quote me on that and def contact them jsut to be sure.
Also make sure both dogs are I.d chipped before placing them in temporary homes, I have seen this scenario where the owners is ready to have the dogs back and the carers refused, im not putting you off as the situation needs to be sorted jsut for you to be aware.
If you need and rescue site recommendaions, alot of people find temp foster homes this way in these situations) which include breed specific jsut Pm me and will will have a runt around:)

Thank you all so much for your replies. Really helpfull and I will pass all of it on and start digging to see what we can get sorted.

Hopefully he is having the by pass tomorrow as he is high stroke risk so they wont do it until they have scanned him which they can only do 9-5 Mon-Fri!

Blackdog - the dogs are in South Wales, not far from Newport. I had the joy of walking a husky for the first time tonight, he is just a big ball of fluff! Walked about five miles and I think he thought that was just the warm up.

Cayla - thanks re: the microchipping, to be honest I imagine they would be however I will make sure that they check.

I will keep you updated as to how I get on.

A x
