Before you get too carried away you need to get a location sorted out. Just deciding you are going to use your local playing field isn't sufficient. You need to approach who ever owns it or runs it, find out whether they will allow horses on, what they will charge, whether their insurance will cover it or whether you need to arrange your own and a whole host of other stuff. Sorry.

I went to a charity show last year and they had a mix of classes. They had best turned out, pony most like owner, veteran, that kind of thing. It was excellent fun and must have raised a good amount for the charity.

Do interesting classes, not too much showing and none of this boring 2'3 2'6 2'9 jumping malarchy. E.g.

Top score jumping
Pairs but on same horse (i.e. one rider jumps on the horse, then stop other rider gets on, next rider jumps)
Timed team jumping but in a relay - e.g. passing a baton from one to another. Good if you have a decent crowd to get everyone all into it
obviously chase me charlie (in a grid?)
Jump and run (timed - jump course then get off and run round course!)
Jelly jumping (jumping wiht a plate of jelly, whoever has most at end wins)
Jelly dressage (as above but easier :)!)
Jelly gymkhana games (as above but messier!)
Grid jumping wiht water (as above but wetter)
Handy pony
Oh horse and hound jumping is always good too...
Obviously gymkhana games but try and make them different - e.g. not just ride and run, bending etc but add twists in wherever you can, use your imagination.

i.e. fun and unusual things. You'll get tonnes of poeple turn up, everyone loves that kind of thing, we do them sometimes and people love it.

I wish the show organisers round here would do stuff like this :D

Especially jelly dressage - my pony has the smoothest trot ever - I could perfor the entire test in sitting trot, just to show off :D

an accumulator? my local show had a pony and horse mini grand national thing... fancy dress etc is always popular with kids and makes quite a spectacle.
