went to see a lovley horse today, wella ctually we went to see two horses and fell in love with the second one.
a 15.3hh 4 year old piebald, we think he is a irish sports horse,
he is slightly bigger build than connor, but he was very safe and will also hopefull let me event on him.
he ahs good dressage and a massively scopy jump which could take some getting used to. but i am sure i could cope.
his only vise was he did have ringworm, which was why the dealers did not bring him back form irland 4 months earleir, they left him there till it had cleared up.
although they said it had cleared up i am a bit hesitant on weather it is a good idea on weather to gett a horse that has had it because i dont know anything about it, and i am wondering is ringworm somehting that can come back and casue a problem.
so can people please let me know what you think please, i shall try and upload a picture of him if i can but not to good on my mums laptop as it cna be tempromental

It genreally lives in buildings and is caught when they scratch against somthing, it is generally cleared up by feeding a powder from the vets. We had a foal covered in them about 8 or 9 but he never had them again or had an issues with them.

Def make sure the ringworm has cleared up - its really contagious and to humans too.... did you wash properly after seeing him? also I found out the hard way, that ringworm isn't just a circular piece of skin but can also look like a girth rub or similiar..... It doesn't automatically come back once its been cleared out though which is the good news! but it can "linger" in wood/stables etc so be 300% sure he is clean before taking him anywhere

from the chump who helped out a friend by collecting her new horse from the dealers yard, ignored friends query on the skin as thought it was just a rub, and took said pony back to own yard.

Pony was washed down immediately and stuck far away in other paddocks till it could go back. I spent best part of an hour disinfectating my trailer and then was sent home to shower and change before I could go near my own horse... duh!!!

Ringworm is part and parcel of having a horse most get it from time to time will not cause probs in future but could be left with scars

if you like the horse i wouldnt let ringworm put you off! if you decide to buy him wash him off with imaverol from the vets before you put him in your lorry to take home. i would think if he had it 4 months ago(if you choose to believe this!!!!!!!!!) it is inactive by now! you can get grisol v granules from the vet to feed for 7 days i think. just be careful for the first couple of weeks to keep his things seperate from everyone elses and disinfect yard things and brushes in virkon e. it is a very common thing in winter

yer it has deffinatly cleared up the dealers would not bring him over till it had deffinatly cleared up, you can see where it was becasue of the colour change, he had it all down his back legs and all around the girth area, when the people who have him now first saw him he hd it then. thye liked him but said they coukd nto belive their eyes when told that the people in irland had still been riding him with it, tacking him hunting and eveything, they said it was the type of thing where he should have bucked the rider off because it looked soo raw, but they refused to bring him back till it had deffinatly cleared up.
but can it come back in the future , you can tell it has deffinatly cleared up in all the places he ahd it, the skin has healed over as well, he did have it a few months ago. but i just really dont know if it will come back in the future and cause a problem.

Martins irish horses, they are brilliant and we cannot fault them in any way, we bought connor of the and they were fab, we asked them to keep an eye out for horses suitbale and they came back with two great ones but i the one i really liked did have ringworm about 4 or 5 months ago, it has healed now and they said the way it normally goes is if they have had it then they wont get it again, but i just was wanting to make sure, as i dont knwo anything about it really

If the ringworm is all definitely treated and gone then it shouldn't cause any problems in future. Now, get a move on and put some photos up!

we cannot say a bad thing about them, they were faultless with connor eveything they said he would do he did brilliantly, ther was nothing about connor that was not perfect or could quickly be made perfect it is just a shame that he died so young.
eveything about them today was brilliant, all the memories that we had about them being brilliant hounest people were spot on
i shall try and up load a photo form their website, i did not manage to get any from today as it was raining to much, out of curisoity how do i upload pictures

hopefully this will be a photoupload of him depending on if i have done it right, if i have not done it then can some one please tell me how i can upload it. thanks [image]

Hi, if the ringworm is 'dead' on the horse it is no longer contagious. You can tell this because when active the ringworm will be in rash form or more commonly in spots and the hair will have fallen out and may appear scally and be anything from pink to mousey grey colour.
Once the hair has started to grow back its no longer contagious. It will do your horse NO harm apart from occasionally the hair may grow back a diiferent colour or white even.. Its no big deal and all farm animals can contract it at one point or another from each other or from where other infected animals have been. It will not cause any problems in the future and the same case will not recur. The only way he will get it again is if he comes into contact with another infected animal or is in contact with an area or tack, person etc. who has come into contact with it. It won't be the same dose!
I hope that helps, but really if you like the horse you'd be mad to consider not buying him because of this! It'd be like not buying him because he had a cold a few months ago!
Once its dead and inactive its behind him. You just wouldn't want to bring one home while it was still infectious as your other stock would probably catch it and maybe even yourself!
However its pretty common even in people, ask farmers!

he is, my dad said when he looked on his website he did not like him becasue of his colour, my dad does not like colourds and to be hounest i am not their biggest fan, however i have to say they can look extremly smart with a good bit of brushing and washing, and i have to say i do like him, he has a very kind attitude he certianly is diffrent from anthhingi thought i would have wanted, he is more chunkey than connor and more hard work to get to move, however he is certinaly not thin by any mean, but with a bit of mix and speedy beat i am sure i can get a bit more life out of him XD
so wat do u all think
have a look of their website
http://www.martinsirishhorses.co.uk/horses1.htm
he is the one called Leo we also looked at the black one called Laddy

He's a cracker! I love him.. Also you can always feed a bit of spark into them, far easier than trying to make a fizzy one calm! Its better to be pushing a little than pulling! Thats my take on it anyway

I am not a big fan of coloureds - nothing against them but wouldnt bust to get one - however his colour would not "put" me off as I think he is a really nice stamp of horse and well put together. As someone who has a gray, I am well used to keeping on top with washing...!

Dont assume you will automatically get more speed by feeding him up though - it doesn't work with my irish boy! However he is normally a responsive ride, just harder work to keep "wind" fit.

all in all, I think your would be pony looks to be a lovely quality sort of horse and if he were bigger would be what I look for!

we are going by the feeding up bit becasue atm he is currently not being fed at all, so i think this shows that he is a good doer becasue he is in no mean s skinny and you cannot see his ribs and you cannot feel them when you lightly run your hands over him XD did suprise me when they said he was not being fed but he was by no means needing any extra food tbh he was ideal to slightly over weight XD
am very exicted i just hope we get him but we doubt it will be for at least a month anyway because we need to have the stable cleared becasue hte man we bought this house off is able to keep his stuff their till the end of January.
hearing my mum on the phone she is not overly keen on this horse becasue she wants to wait a few months before getting anouther horse becasue she wants my exams to happen before we get anouther horse however that wont be happening and my dad has said we are getting anouther one as soon as possible.

I think he looks lovely, but I also think that in that photo he is not standing properly over his front legs. It's probably just that photo, the instant it was taken he rocked back or something, but I hope you are having a vetting?

He has a very sweet face and looks like you would have a lot of fun with him. I'm a bit worried by you saying he is slightly on the fat side but not fed anything at the moment, but you want to feed him up for more energy. I can't see how that will work. If he is already fit from hunting, then I think it would be unsafe to buy him hoping you can get a lot more spark out of him.

He will have a certain amount of immunity to ringworm now. It's no big deal it's just got a nasty name. If the hair has regrown he's cured but take your own headcollar to collect him with.

He looks like he has quite a lot of feather that as been clipped off - are you ready to keep clipping it off if you want to keep him looking that neat?

He looks a cracking type! I agree in the confo photo he looks a little odd in front, but I think it is probably an optical illusion due to standing with both front legs together and the way the white markings run down his legs!

no he was hunted bout 4 months ago but he is not very fit atm, and i was the first person to ride him in bout 12 days becasue they had the snow and their school had been frozen over and flooded
