So, I'm on the lookout for a 2nd dog, ideally of whippety stature, a bitch and anything upto the age of 2 considered. Rescue or pup from a home/breeder. Pure pups are expensive, so although not ruled out, money doesn't grow on trees so I've diverted my attention to rescues... not to mention there are so many out there that need homes.
Along the lines of 'it'll happen when it's right'.... I looked and applied for a little whippety bitch... got a reply back saying she's already been re-homed, but we have ''C''. So I asked about ''C''....
Then the phone goes, and it's the rescue home. A good half hour on the phone later, I know all about ''C'' and her background, and know all about the rescue home (they're horsey too, so conversation was free flowing!) So far, we all meet the perfect match, and I like the sound of them as a whole, and she was getting excited listening to my background, and how I look after dogs (and horses!).
What I didn't tell them though, was about my leg operation due in a few weeks time. This will mean two things... firstly, non weight bearing means I won't be able to do the dog walking, but secondly, I'll be at home, on the sofa recovering with a dog or two. (got a spaniel already). Now, in jumps the OH, who approves of getting a second dog, but doesn't approve of the timing. Hes got a bit cross, claiming he's not walking a new dog. (He's not the greatest at walking the spaniel, it is ''his'' dog, but leaves it to me and our teenage children to walk most of the time).
Then he says we ''might'' have his parents' spaniel while they move house - it could be a few days, weeks or even months. I can accomodate 3, done that before, but is it fair on a newbee? It might not happen at all!!
I feel it's right, but must think of ''C''... She's not a rescue per say, just her previous owners haven't been able to keep her, so passed around twice already.
Voices of reasons please...
