he is currently in a 3 ring gag which he hates and doesnt need. When we first got him and he used to rush into fences we fell into the 'whack a gag on him' trap. he has been schooled on since then and really doesnt like the gag. He can get strong so Ash will need emergency brakes! He is also ridden in a drop noseband. So can anyone suggest a bit to try on him?

I've got a NS universal you could try if you want, has the curb strap if you need a bit more stopping power, but is alot less of a bit than the gag.

Happy B-day by the way

A Kimblewick does not have snaffle action, it is a curb bit, in the same family as pelhams and weymouths. It is still an excellent choice to try.

I remember as a child riding fizzy little ponies in kimblewicks. Will need to change the drop for a cavesson.

Sorry i wasn't clear enough, when the reins on a kimberwick are not in a slot it is basically a D ring snaffle. its only when your on a slot that the curb comes into any real play.

I posted the last post in a a hurry. sorry if it was a bit abrubt

thanks for the replies so far ,will try both suggested bits. Otto opens his gob hence the drop noseband (recommended by instructor ) If i use a kimblewick and a cavesson won't he just open his mouth to evade it ? sorry if thats a stoopid question but the mares are both ridden in snaffles and i don't know a lot about other bits ar what they do!
