hi, does anyone have any good advice for getting weight on my tb - what do you feed yours etc ?? he's always been a skinny bean, but i would love to get a bit more weight on him. He's not fizzy or anything, so could try most feeds. and any suggestions on how much hay or haylage etc.

I have a 17hh 26yr Old WB x TB and he struggles to put weight on. I am currently feeding him:

1.5 Round Stubbs scoop Spillers Conditioning Fibre
3/4 Round Stubbs Scoop Allen and Page Calm and Condition
1/2 Round Stubbs Scoop Speedi-beet
Pink Powder
Cooked Linseed

He has this twice a day and maybe an extra half scoop of conditioning fibre if he does quite a bit of work that day.

He has filled out lovely since he has been on this. Since Sept he has gone from looking like a half neglected horse to very very nearly up to a perfect weight.

He is stabled at night and usually has around 4 folds but always has some left over the next morning.

My Tb dropped weight recently. He is 19 and was very poorly last year - so this is the first year I've ever had a problem keeping weight on him.

He has ad lib hay and a big net of horse hage. He's also on alfa a, pink powder and was on alfa beet, but I've recently changed that to fast fibre. He's put weight on in the last 2 weeks so is doing well on his feeds.

Mine has as much hay as she wants in her haybar, she never empties it. A half tubby scoop of DH condition cubes, same again of Badminton cooked cereal conditioning mix (looks like breadcrumbs) and 1 tubby scoop of alfa-beet twice a day and looks great on it. I really struggled this summer to keep weight on but since feeding the above she's put on weight and condition. Phone the feed companies, they are all very helpful.

Micronised Linseed from Charnwood Milling. Full of omega 3s and natural oils, far more available to them thant the cheap crap in veg oil and more digestable as its a seed. Does wonders for coat and hooves too :D

I've tried the Ready Mash stuff as well, v good for my skinny minny selle francais.

Boiled barley and linseed as good as well though, cheaper too.
