hi my horse has lost alot of weight due to hurting his back (now sorted) and having a mild case of hepatitis so i need to know what is good for putting weight on fast??

Is the horse on adlib hay or haylage? Has he access to good grazing? What are you feeding him at present? Has he been on antibiotics? Is he sensitive to any ingredients? Anything he won't eat? How many times a day can you feed him? Does he get fizzy easily?

he is on good haylage as much as he will eat, grazing ok but is coming through, on a cool mix, alfa oil, sugar beet, pink powder, equilibra and cooked linseed in 3 or 4 feeds a day. vet didnt put him on antibiotics, just a supplement to aid appatite. eats most things, and does not really get fizzy. just looks so awful??

Be patient that feed sounds fine, i would almost be tempted to swap from the mix to a high fibre pencil/cube...almost try and simplify it a bit!

Hepatitis will greatly affect the liver, avoid oil and high protein diets, in this case I would ring around some feed companies who may be able to help, Alfa A Oil is high in both oil and protein, even a cool mix may be too high, everyone on here will have differnet opinions therefore I would seek advice of a feed proffesional.
