hi,

i need to sell a horse. fast.......

i took him in for a friend who wasnt very well, and now she said she cant take him back. hes nice, bit green in the school. but other wise a good horse. i dont want him to end up in the wrong hands thou, but my work, winter etc i cant cope anymore.

(p.s - im not writing any details of him so im not breaching rules)

Well as she is the horses owner, she should be doing the selling or if not well enough, at least the advertising.

If she words it honestly and is realistic on the price, she should have no problems if he is as nice as you say :)

Plus, you've had him in work so he's good to go!

If you advertise at a realistic price you will have no problems as long as horse is as you describe - for those of us who have spent the last 30 odd years looking at horses who are lame/nuts etc this would be a great buy as long as green-ness reflected in what you were asking.

ive had him advertised, and at a good price i think!
ive been honest when people call and email cos i also dont want to waste my time either!

i did take a deposit of someone then they decided not to have him, (although i turned away potential buyers, the deposit they left was only small and didnt even cover the weeks livery!)
im just getting fed up, and i need him gone by 10 days cos then the horses stay in over night, and i wont have the time to do him. also my friend isnt very well hence why i took him to be helpful :(

At the end of the day the horse is not your responsibility, and although you are trying to do a friend a favour, are obviously struggling. Therefore it is up to the owner to resolve the situation, either by putting the horse on sales livery, or finding somewhere to turn it away until he/she is well enough to look after it again.
Could she find somone to loan it over the winter or another alternative would be to take it to the sales without a reserve and be prepared not too make much money.

Tinker 88 I had a horse advertised in H&H the other week a totally honest hunter mare, I think I have had every middle age time wasting woman in England on the phone!!! I feel your pain. They ask every question under the sun say they are coming and dont ring back.
Because Iam honest and say Ive bought her to sell people automatically think Iam dodgy.
Because there are no names/record of vaccinations in her passport Iam tempted to say Ive had her years and tell people what they want to hear!! My problem is Iam too upfront. I also have a beautiful grey hunter for sale he is stunning, thought I had sold him word of mouth, a woman came 4 times with and without instructor also watched me hunt him, then asked for a video of him coming out of the horse box WTF, then txt me after all this had been going on 3 weeks, and said Iam not in a position to buy a horse!!
Iam going to have to advertise him but I think if I get one more idiot on the phone I will self distruct!! Rant over!! Hope you sell him market is full of wanna bes that never go and look just waste an afternoon on the phone!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm having the same issue. Two horses for sale, realistically priced, both nice horses, had one time waster exactly the same as you, and no calls for the other. Advertised on Horse and Hound, Horsemart, Friday ad and Preloved! Sadly I don't have room for them over the winter, I have been honest in adverts and said willing to accept offers, still nothing!

unfortunalty, unless you go to one of these "we buy any horse, instand desision" adds or go to the sales where is no quick and easy way to sell horses to good homes, it alls takes time and patience, if there was we would all be doing it. ;)

I don't know your friedns ill health situation but I think maybe you need to go round and see your friend and explain in 1o days time you can no longer keep the horse and she either needs to pay for him to go on grass livery somewhere or to sales livery and you could help her organise but you can't afford the time and money of her horse over the winter.

There's definitely lots of us looking to buy at the moment, so put up a well written advert, with a good photo! There are 3 people just at my yard looking to buy a horse currently! I had one vetted but failed last week, and I've found two more local horses to view this weekend.

Feel free to pm details of any approximately 16.2, 5-9 yr old sound, sane allrounder types, if you're within 70 miles from London. (under 6k) Thanks :)

I know exactly what you mean, I'm at my wit's end. I have two ponies that simply HAVE to go by the end of the month so, reluctantly, I have them entered for the NF Pony sales on 21st.

You obviously took this horse in with the best of intentions, but it really is HER problem, not yours. If the horse is not being fed yet, he will be soon. Presumably your friend will pay you/buy his feed? Sadly, as others have said, the market is somewhat erratic, and unless she avails herself of a sale, or "buy anything" dealer, the chances are you will have this horse for a little while, yet. Therefore you need to get in place some sort of agreement regarding your costs PDQ. Ultimately, it is the practical coping that you seem worried about, therefore you must impress on her the necessity of finding him alternative accomodation as soon as possible, or you will be joining your friend on the "sick list" :(
