I have a 2 year old pat I bought from working dog breeder. Im hoping to find a terrier man near me that willing to take me along ratting cos she's so game and definitely not a house dog. All she lives for is going out. She's caught moles and rabbits and she ran off the other day and I found her up near the fox dens. She came back covered in soil and scratches so I guess she's been down a hole for a couple of hours. I think she just needs this cos she loves it. She's a powerful dog and quite tall at 12 kilos. I think she would Excel at ratting but I just need some guidance. Thanks

Mine is Lakeland/pat/jack. Along with killing rats and rabbits, he used to love terrier racing. He was very good at it and won a fair few times, but was always beaten by a pat.

Hi, funny you should say that, she is very fast so that might be something else to look at, thanks. I take her down the meadows at night and she comes out of nowhere like a bullet, running round like a complete nutter

Would barn hunts be any good?. Something you can do with your dog as a team.

Are you looking for a new, fun activity you can do with your dog? Then Barn Hunt is for you! Barn Hunt mimics hunting for rats in a barn.

Barn Hunt is a brand new sport to the UK for dogs and handlers, it’s teamwork. Your dog uses natural instincts to find hidden tubes and you have to learn to read the dog’s signals to know when the tube(s) has been found and tell the judge.

No, I want her to do what she's bred to do, but thanks anyway. She's already proved herself with rabbits, moles foxes so id rather channel it into ratting if there's anyone near me that is willing to let me join there dogs around Buxton, new mills area. Thanks anyway

I never worked any of my dogs, terriers or lurchers, but if I had I would have liked to have had some idea of where they were.

Not on Facebook, I don't do social media, I only tried on here in case any terrier lads were local. Thanks for replies anyway, I'll have a look round the posts now I'm on here.

If you’re letting her hunt whatever she likes anyway why the need for another person?
It's not about hunting. I have never encouraged her to hunt anything but it's very rural where I live and I'd rather channel it into ratting than end up her getting into trouble chasing things. I underestimated a working patterdale and although I take her for a run often, I just think she needs this to get her focused and get her doing something she's good at. Also, anyone that knows patterdales will know how stubborn and intelligent they are.

Well, I think Facebook will be your friend. I used to find racing and showing for mine on Southwest Terrier and Lurcher shows. It encompasses a wide area so not just SW. It is amazing what you can find by searching on there.

We had many patterdales, mainly rejected pets. I would discourage the free hunting, they are born killers and very driven. Cats, horses, other dogs, livestock are all at risk from a free hunting terrier with the strength and drive of a Patterdale.
They are not good pets.
I’d join a rat pack, but if you don’t use social media I’ve no idea how to find one.
Do you watch you tube? There are videos on there.

I've stopped her chasing cats and and cattle and she's socialised with dogs and I take her for a proper run for a couple hours down the meadows to burn her out a bit. She gets plenty of exercise cos all she wants is to be out.
