It really depends. I have also heard that long backs can be weak backs. However I have a 17.0hh ID/TBx mare (13yrs) who is very long and has never had back problems. She has competed and hunted and apart from a little stiffness in her hocks, she is fine. Here is a pic of her. It's not very good i'm afraid as she was messing about because of the flies.
