....Well for the first event of the season Hattie is being ridden by someone else - (for many reasons, a) im not able to go PN on her yet. b) im not experienced enough to take her PN. c) she needs someone with more strength for her to trust cross country for her first event of the season

) anyway thats beside the point, the rider is an experienced sjer, brings on youngsters VERY nicely, hes been a whipper in for several seasons and has evented about 3 times so not a professional eventer but a very good professional rider all the same.

The question is, considering what he has done although he doesnt have the specific eventing experience and we are giving him a nice opportunity for him to have what we hope will be a nice day out on a gift horse - what do we pay him?? (we are paying all entry fees etc.) we feel we should give him something as he is having to take a day out from doing his own horses but obviously its a nice day out for him too. So what would be a good amount to pay him in your opinions??

When I was unable to ride (my horse was entered for an event) because I had to have emergency surgery 3 wks before I paid my trainer to ride him.
He is an expereienced trainer and competed up to 2* level. I had to pay him £50 to ride my horse and he won

My other trainer who rode my horse when I had just purchased him had ridden at 4* level and she didnt charge me a bean she was just happy to have the ride on him - she won also!
I gave her the sacks of feed that we won as a Thank You.

Personally if hes doing it as a bit of fun and helping you out i wouldnt go mad on the money as tbh hes getting a nice free ride on your horse, perhaps £20 to say thanks would be fine.
 
When one of ours was ridden by other eventer in a Novice. He was given £20 just as a thank you really. We paid everything else entry got the horse there etc.
 
he is the son of a friend and he's ridden her loads before so in terms of experience on her he knows her very well. Also he's 21ish so not very old either

the thing is, because hes not an eventer his dressage isnt fantastic and he rarely goes cross country so we wouldnt be prepared to pay him the amount we would for a pro eventer - hes only been to PN level himself although sjs way beyond that

we asked his Dad last time and he said dont give him gifts, money is much better for him. But he didnt tell us how much to pay him

If he's whipped in he shouldnt have a problem crossing country though I know hunting is diff to eventing!!
£20-30 should be fine & I would expect him to be more than happy with it! Hope they/you have a good day.
 
lol yup i keep forgetting he is very comfortable and experienced with turf under his feet thundering towards huge fences

Who's the jockey you have in mind Hattikins ? Does he do a bit of SJ'ing in Sussex, and have a dad who is a fairly well-known course-builder / trainer
