I recently got an ex racer from the track and had been told he had done a bit of schooling at home for jumping. He was a flat horse.

Ive been trying to school him on the lunge over trotting poles but he is either scared of them or stops infront of the pole.

I have a ground pole laying on the floor and a raised pole probably about 1 foot off the floor so not very high.

He wont go over the raised trotting pole - he stops infront of it and just puts his brakes on.

Has anyone got any ideas please? thank you.

Why dont you try just dotting the poles around the school, completelty ignore them for a while and then every now and again, just walk up to them, let him stop and look, but not to back away and when he does go over them really praise him and make a big fuss of him. I would forget raised poles for the time being until he is comfortable and happy with them on the ground. Good luck
