Hi all have been looking at my mares feed and wanted to see if I was giving her what she needed. She has apple chaf, top spec slow release mix and her joint supplement, but was finding the constant bags of top spec quite expensive and didnt know how much she was gettting from it. I just want to maintain her weight and not give her too much as I think she could be quite fizzy hence the slow release stuff. Have looked at baileys outshine to help maintain her coat and gvie her the correct supplements.
What advantages have people had with either top spec or baileys outshine. I know they are different products but I am sure horses are fed other things than top spec. Any help recommendations welcome.

PS Is there much difference in price.

There is a good difference about £7 I believe I use top spec comprehensive because of hoof supplement£35 bag and friend uses baileys about £28 maybe less.I wont switch as he needs hoof supplement and looks fab on top spec but baileys is good ,her horse has different needs and he is in good condition too.Baileys is good for maintaining weight my horse needs more as he is tb .

I've not heard of Top Spec slow release mix and can't find it on their website - are you sure that is the correct name for it?

What is the mare getting as well as hard feed? Haylage, hay, grazing and what is the quality like? This is quite important in determining what hard feed you give. For example, if she is on ad lib good quality haylage then she probably doesn't need the high protein levels of a balancer.

I think Outshine is an oil based calorie feed (weight gain) but doesn't supplement vitamins, so if you use that you need to feed something else, like a hard feed, as well to provide vitamins and minerals. Did you mean LoCal, that is Baileys balancer (like topspec)?

baileys conditioning feeds (number 4 or 17) are supposed to be good for non-fizzy feeding with calories and vitamins.
