Some of you may have read my recent thread in 'Veterninary' with regards Annular Ligament problems but just in case you haven't, here's the jist....Basically my lad was slightly 'off' on his LH and we thought bone spavin, however on a work up it turned out to be due to the annular ligament and thus he had ALD surgery, he's had a few problems since this, the most recent being a hole in his DDFT and SFT. He's currently on 2 weeks box rest (half way through) and will be re-scanned afterwards but until then we're in limbo.

Anyway, my issue is this, I have owned my lovely little lad for the best part of 14 years, he has always been a happy cheeky little chap, always whinnied when he saw me, always cuddling into people and always loving attention. He's never been very good with other horses but he's never been at all confrontational, he's always just stayed well away from other horses.

In the past 6 months or so he's become increasingly more and more grumpy and generally not himself, he now puts his ears flat back at anyone who comes hear him, he nips at times, he goes for other horses even when in his stable (he's never EVER gone for another horse, he's always been too damn scared of them!) and then today when I was givving him a cuddle and going to take his rug off he went to kick me (something else he truly has never done).

To me, this indicates he truly is not happy and, I'm guessing it's due to severe pain. He's already on 2 sachets of Danilon daily (on vets advice) but it doesn't even seem to be touching the sides if that makes sense.

What would you do? I know my boy and I know this is not him, he is trying to tell me something and I'm just not sure what else to do. He is clearly unhappy :-( I can't up his Danilon (vets orders) so I'm very worried that I may be close to having to make that big decision, the one I thought I'd not have to make until he truly was a very golden oldie :-(

Any vibes or advicew would be greatly appreciated.

I am so sorry to read this, and I am sending great big get better soon vibes to you. Have you spoken to your vet about this and how you feel? only you know your horse how he is and how he looks and what he is telling you, and only you can say what you think is best for him, but if I was you I would speak to the vet again, explain how you feel and see what they have to say, I so hope things work out for you, take care x

Thankyou for that, it is appreciated. I'll be speaking to my vet as soon as the office opens again on Tuesday as I'm really not happy with things as they are, surely such a drastic change in his temperement is indicatiung something is definitely wrong :-(
