My boy seems to be feeling a little flat at the moment. I currently feed - High fibre nuts (0.8 kg ish) and Fibergy large double handful. Recently with the increase in daylight we have been doing longer hacks after work 1-2 hours, mainly trot. I don't think his current high fibre diet is really giving him enough energy. Can anyone suggest ways to increase the energy in his feed without adding too much starch. He can be naughty on cereal mixes.

He is currently just about right weight wise neither gaining nor losing, ridden 6 days a week, turned out 24hrs on strip grazed reasonable field, couple of flakes (small bale size) meadow hay at night in field plus feed am & pm.

Thank you

Saracen Re-Lieve is a working diet which is as low in sugar and starch as you can get. Race horses are fed it! D& H also do a sugar/starch intolerance working diet. I have used both and found that they increase energy without stupidity.

Essensialy any high oil feed will do the same thing. Look out for feeds where the energy comes from oil rather than cerials.

You can feed Soya oil for energy aswell

Don't forget vits and mins. If you are not feeding a supplement, I'd add one or a balancer as these help release the energy from the diet.
