Neem oil. How do you use it?

I've just bought my girls some neem oil.

How do I apply it?

They're struggling with midgies on their faces, blood sucking insects in their groin and ticks.

Thanks!

You can apply it neat, wear gloves and rub it into the base of the mane and tail. Avoid the saddle area. You could also use neat on the inside of legs, sheath/udder.
It can also be mixed with water and a drop or two of shampoo and sprayed or wiped on.
I use around a tablespoon to a litre of water.

My I suggest you test it first on a small patch on your horse and leave it overnight to test for reaction....Mrs Farmer bought some direct and then diluted it and then liberally applied it all over one of our horses... I went down to check on the horse a couple of hours later and the poor thing looked like elephant man!
In the places it had been sprayed there was an intense allergic reaction and his coat became all raised and irritated...hence urgent shampooing and trying to wash it off quickly...
It took 2-3 days for the reaction to disappear... So I'd definately test it!

As Farmer Chalk says spot test first, my friends horse reacted badly to it.
I apply it neat every few days when there are flies about. I use about a tsp and wipe it down the back from poll to tail, then I put a little more under the horses belly and inside back legs.
The biggest problem I have is getting it out of the bottle! It sets when cool, standing it in a cup of hot water helps.

I apply it neat too. About the allergic reaction I have been using neem for a couple of years and have bought quite a few bottles. Normally they were fine with it but one time both ponies reacted to it quite badly and I was going to stop using it. However I got another bottle and have had no more reactions, Make sure you get the organic cold pressed stuff as I think there are some bottles around that aren't as good as they should be.

I mix it with aqueous cream and a tiny drop of washing up liquid (helps mix it in the cream) and slather it on. My pony can't tolerate it being applied neat
