Whats are these bandages like? Do they really get cold? Do they leave gunk on the legs afterwards (I assume they're wet if they've had coolant poured on them?). Thinking about using them for after XC. I normally use a cooling clay but its so damn messy! Thoughts please? Thanks.

what i did after xc was get peas on legs as soon as horse was back at box after sponging horse down - leave them on for about 15 mins ( I think after 15 mins the effect of the cold peas makes no difference and can actually start to heat the legs). I woul leg poulitce the elgs put stable bandages on and the following day i woudl put bonner bandage or polo bandages put in freezer for couple of hours then put on legs. I find peas very effective or tubi grip for hocks etc which you can fill with ice. Hope that helps!

oh and sorry- i have never used neo-ice so no idea if it works well.

yes i put them in a cooler box and fill with ice which i then put in the tubi grip, what i do is cut up an old bed sheet into a size about 2/3x the size of a4 paper, then lay each rectangle out length ways and put pea packet either side then fold up the bottom and top part toward centre and then fold peas in once so it ends up than you can place it around leg and peas either side then polo bandage over it. does that make sense, hope it does!

I use a Kool Pak & attach it with vetrap. They need no special storage, you just pop a sachet which is in the bag, give it a shake & instant ice cold. Strap it to the leg & they stay cold for about 20 minutes. They are disposable but at well under £1 each they are great. I always take some with me, applying cold at the time of the injury & not have to wait can be extremely beneficial.

A woman at my yard knows the people who run Neo-Ice.

Ive had some free bandages and refills off her and they are fab. Definately very good value and they go cold instantly and stay cold for up to 3 hours.

The bandages are reusable, so you just use the refill liquid to make it cold again next time you want to use it.

Neo-Ice bandages are great, probably the best thing I have ever tried. I was using Like Ice and still do occasionally but it makes such a mess I prefer the Neo Ice. They are very easy to use, get really cold and stay cold much longer than Tight Ice and they are re-usable (although I have never tried). No flapping about needed!

Ok, Im going to get some Neo-Ice bandages. How long should they stay on the legs after XC?

And how are they secured? I see they have some elastic netting stuff on their website - do I need to buy this?
