my preveous foal died of neonatal isoerythrolysis about a year ago unfortunately. However the foal was fantastic quality, so i want to breed the same two horses again to try and produce the same quality foal as the last. My question is, how likely is it that the next foal will get neonatal isoerythrolysis?

Hi,
you might want to discuss this in more detail with your vets, but neonatal isoerythrolysis is caused by the mare producing antibodies against the foals red blood cells. When the foal suckles the colostrum, it absorbes the antibodies and they attack and destroy the red blood cells. There is a good chance future foals will be affected, so they should be muzzled after birth and feed colostrum form a different source.
