Nerve blocks and X-rays on swollen Pastern

Hi, my horse had had a swelling on his rear Pastern for about 10 wks now, the vet gave him two weeks box rest and bute and it did go down but came back up a couple of weeks later, I'm heavily pregnant so havn't been riding him and hoped it would go down, he's only lame when the vet done the flextion test.
He's now going for X-rays and nerve blocks next week.
Does anyone know what the nerve blocks do and has anyone else had a similar problem with their horse?

Nerve blocks is a usual thing vets do to numb the area in the foot or leg.

if the horse goes sound in the foot it helps the vet diagnose that this is the problem area.

Nerve block is a bit like the dentist use to nerve your mouth, the horse feels nothing wears off a certain time later

I am sure a lot of people have had this done. The vet must be worried if they want to do this as something is not right in his leg, could be fracture or anything.

She think he may of chipped a bone, fingers crossed its something simple. Unfortunately he's also been going lame on and off on his front leg too.
I don't know what's happend, I've had him 10yrs since a goal and he's only been in light work for the past year. Typical all this has happend now as well weeks before my baby is due
