So I am going to have a assessment lesson this evening with someone who teaches the big pro riders . ( I forget the person name) I have a physical disability so my riding isn’t the best and my horse is very lazy . I kind worried that I am going to embarrassed my self. I haven’t had a lesson since March . I have been recommended this person by a friend.

Instructors often teach pro riders and amateurs alike. I wouldn’t think too much thought into who their clientele are.
a good instructor will work with you to get the best out of the combination they have in front of them.
if they make you feel embarrassed etc then I’d not go back...

I personally like a “strict” teaching style, I don’t want to be told it’s good when it’s down right awful half the time; but I’d not go back to someone who was hyper critical for the sake of it. I’m not a professional, I just want to get the best out of my horse.

You have nothing to prove and you do this for fun so don’t punish yourself :)

When I was looking for a new riding school to go to it helped to think of it as more of a two way thing - so yes they were assessing my level/ability, but I was also assessing them. It might help to think about your hopes/expectations for them so you can get the most out of it - you're paying them to help you improve after all. :)

Just seen you posted this afternoon in relation to this evening so my reply might have come a bit late - I hope it went well :)

I hope you had a great time. A good trainer doesn't care if the client is a pro or a challenged amateur, they just want you to achieve the very best you can. If they don't, then find someone else.
