It is good, but the blurb tends to make it sound as if you put it on & the scabs fall off, when in fact it can take up to a week for the site to be completely clean. I would recomend it though - my old mare has a chronic mud fever condition on one pastern, we cannot get rid of it, all we can do is try & control it. The descabber keeps her scabs to a minimum

yes I've used it and can echo what Zebedee has said. some scabs come off right away and others take up to aweek. Interestingly I find Johnsons baby lotion effective for loosening/removing scabs too. I do wonder if its basically the same stuff [ and much cheaper]
NetTex muddy marvel cream is a good barrier product I find.
the disinfectant was too harsh on my arabs skin and caused "burns" so I wont use that again.
Also good for mud fever
Liquid parafin mixed about 50/50 with petroleum gelly and a good handful of flowers of sulfur thrown in. add a few drops of tea-tree oil or a few drops of hibiscrub/
use liberally.
melted lard with flowers of sulphur added [ very cheap]
Any Fungatrol product from Equine America
zinc and castor oil mixed with pet gelly and liquid parafin and a few drops of tea-tree.

I can't help you with the net-tex stuff but there are all sorts of cheap homemade things you can use - My boy has had horrendous mudfever recently. The vet gave me a whole load of stuff to put on him, which was taking about an hour a day. After two weeks there was no difference so after moaning about it to the YO she suggested aqeous cream (£1.50 from the chemist for a huge tub) with a bit of sulphur powder. I loaded this mixture onto the scabs (handfulls), wrapped in cling film and bandaged and left for the day. That evening I scraped all the sofend scabs off ( lovely) and it it already miles better. I have done it a couple of times since when some scabs were growing back.

I had a look at this stuff, but it seemed quite pricey for what it is. I just use hibiscrub and the scabs soften and come off. Saying that, I just can't shift his mudfever on one leg (had it for years) so maybe it would be worth a shot!

ooh thanks for all that info.
have got some of the funagtrol cream, if youve had problems with the disinfect i wont go for it as she has super sensitive legs and the last thing i want is to have further problems getting near her legs for the sake of a bit of disinfectant.
ill have to have a look into some of the other ideas youve given me
thanks
