I feel I must write to you to let you knowof my experience with a product that was advised by a local animal healthsupplies company near Ringwood.

My horse was diagnosed by a vet with Ringworm and I was told to use Imaverolwhich I did for a couple of weeks but it did not clear all the ringworm up fromhis hind quarters left a little bit. (you can see the before picture). Therewas a period of 3 weeks since using the imaverol product before the NettexBactocyde Extra Strength Violet Spray best before Nov 2015) was used. Which isan antiseptic disinfectant spray effective against fungi, bacteria and viruses. He had no open wounds and didn't have anything else on his skin, not even anyfly repellent. The male sales representative was told that the horse hadringworm and imaverol had been previously used but he recommended this product.
.
I sprayed two squirt sprays in total on at 6.30pm one evening one squirt oneach cheek and the following evening (so used twice in total) and as you cansee from the pictures it has completely burnt my horse. On the second day afterI applied his skin started to wrinkle and by the next day the skin was peelingoff and weeping. On the second day as soon as I sprayed it on he was tied up outsidehe started kicking out and was extremely hard to handle. I tried to wash it offimmediately but because he became dangerous I had to put him away in the stablewhere he was spinning round his box and kicking the wall.

I tried to wash it off with the hose pipe over the stable door as best I couldbut this is still the outcome.

It took me over a week to be able to go near his hindquarters and over a monthto be able to groom him and pick his hind feet up. This has been a verytraumatic issue for us both and I feel as an animal lover my experience shouldbe shared.

That looks nasty poor lad. I would certainly be getting in touch with Nettex but tbh this is why it is so important to patch test before using new products - even if you've been told it's safe you just don't know what might cause a reaction for a particular animal. I absolutely don't meant to imply any fault here as I think we all do the same but it's a good lesson so thank you for posting and I hope there are no lasting effects to your poor horse.

Thank you for replying. Yes I did contact Nettex who tested the batch but could find nothing wrong with the product, so therefore took no further ownership. SO I can only comment on my experience which I feel should be shared.

Very sorry to see this :(

I was in a very similar situation with Protexin earlier in the year, its always disappointing that they come across as not caring as soon as they can say its a standard product and we have tested it as such. Us with the poor sensitive horses have to lump it :(

Thank you for your reply. The product description reads "Extra strength combination disinfectant containing antibacterial and anti-fungal ingredients which act against most skin complaints. Particulary Ringworm".

I would only continue to use it on the feet..... Thanks for posting a reply.
