Hi all,

Does anyone know the cheapest place to buy NS bits at the moment? I keep checking ebay but to be honest even well used ones are going for nearly the full price so might as well buy new!

Also, does anyone have any experience with the cotswold sports bits? In particular the tongue saver one?

I'm very interested in trying a verbindend for my girl on the flat - I've been sucked in by the product description which makes it sound like it could help us a lot! Does anyone know if the CS one is the same as a verbindend?

Most of the time she works very sweetly but she will tend to lean and get a bit heavy if she is going to resist - sounds like the verbindend might be of some help?

Like you I wanted to try a ns bit but was reluctant to pay the price (although they are excellent), so I tried the Cotswold Sport version of the tranz universal and it was fab, I used it a lot and there are no signs of wear or tear. Liked it so much that I have bought a couple of bits from them now. I *think* that the mouth piece is shaped slightly differently but I had no problems whatsoever :)

I just bought the NS Verbindend for my mare. It was £56 from Wadswick Country Store in Wiltshire.

My mare is not a leaner at all. When she is soft and round, she is good in the contact, but struggles with most bits I have tried as she has a very small mouth and a massive tongue. I got the Verbindend because of the way it lies and gives a large groove for the tongue to sit comfortably in.

This was her the first day I tried it. As you will see, I have a very light soft contact myself as it is a new bit and I wanted her to have a play and get used to it, so I didn't even use the reins or ask for contact in transitions as a problem she has had through her retraining is tension through the jaw in transitions, so I just wanted to leave her alone in the mouth to make of it what she would. Her transitions improved almost immediately and I do think most of that is just that she is happier to maintain a light contact now that she is more comfortable in it with this bit.

I am very happy with the results. No flash and no tongue bulging out of the side, she's just having a nice play with it and getting used to the new feeling.

It is lovely to ride in and highly recommended by me now that I have done more in it. Definitely worth the money!

Also...I did read that you may have to go up a bit size due to the design of the Verbindend, but wherever you buy yours from if you get one, make sure you have bit wrap to protect it and can take it back if you need to as going up just a quarter of an inch would have been too much for Fly.

Someone on yard has the CS tongue saver and I have the NS verbindend...can't see the diff really&certainly not for the price difference! I bought a CS lozenge gag earlier this year and am v happy with it.

Ilvpippa- I've just ordered one from horse bit hire to try before we buy but if you could pm me the details of yours that would be great!

She is currently in a french link fulmer which is ok but but she can resist to it sometimes by opening her mouth and becoming very heavy in the hand and she isn't all that responsive to it. I know its a schooling issue but at the same time when she's listening she goes very nicely in it???

Either way at 6inch the one we are using is too big and I don't think the extra movement is helping so have gone for a 5.75 in the verbindend - ah well, will see what she's like in it, its great getting to trial it for a month for 6 quid or whatever it is

love this thread thank you !!!! I needed a waterford pelham but didnt want to spend £90 on one just looked and the CS ones are £45 !! cheers guys
