Well after another fairly hair raising show jumping round yesterday I have decided I need to up the brakes. I have been looking at some bits to offer more control (currently in a full cheek french link which he just ignores

). I like the look of the Neue Schule Universal with the optional leather curb;

Does anyone have any good/bad comments or other suggestions? Or know of any cheaper alternatives??

Thanks!

I use the lozenge universal and must say it suits my mare rather well.

It's definately lightened her up on the front, and she is very relaxed in it.

I have my boy in this. He loves it. I use it on the snaffle ring without the leather curb for hacking and jumping at home. On the bottom ring for SJ and cross country.
He doesn't 'dive' onto my hand in this, it has helped to lighten him in front and he seems happy to take a contact. On cross country it doesn't 'overcheck' him and he is confident enough in his mouth to still take me into the fences.
Its a big thumbs up from me

I have the same issues and was looking at this. I found a cheaper bit which is a french link mouth piece but with dutch gag style rings (if that makes any sense?) It was £20 as opposed to the eye watering £64. i wondered if that would so the same thing? Sorry for post hijacking but was interested in the answers.

Hijack away! I quite liked the look of the lozenge rather than french link - I've only had him in the french link for a couple of months but he's never been that happy in it. I used to ride him in a happy mouth roller snaffle which he was happier in than the french link (but obviously way too strong!!), so I wanted to go back to something with a lozenge.

Hmmm the reason I tried the neue Schule was because the angle of the lozenge and the curve of the mouthpiece which is similar to the kk ultra snaffle which I use for dressage and my boy goes very happily in. He also seems to like the aurigan mouthpiece.

I used to use a dutch gag on him and found that that often made him overbent and behind the bridle as it had a little too much poll leverage.
