Can they make a difference? Is it the warmer metal which makes them more aminable to horses? Has anyone had success with a team up?

I think its one of those bits your horse either loves or hates!! I tryed the team up on my mare and she hated it. I had head tossing, taking off, no brakes or steering and little bucks, she was also dripping with saliva instead of a nice little mustache of foam. I sold it to my friend and her horse loves it he previouesly had problems going in an outline and bending but there was a marked improvement after a few days in it.

actually im a convert.
I previously thought they were gimmik, tosh and expensive!
My mare, previously 'heady', unwilling to relax the poll, and didnt always really want to have the bit in.

Now were floating along nicely, she loves being tacked up and bit works in 'fine' dressage and on a galloping (back when the ground was good!) hack.
Team up was my 'style'.

I would rent one - there are some good conversations and reccomendations of bit banks on here.

I use them on both of my boys with really good results. Was a little sceptical at first but it has made definite improvements :)

As OP mentioned, you can hire them to try before you buy - good luck! :D

I think they either love them or hate them. My lad hated a NS - the NS people recommended the Tranz Angled Lozenge and he went dreadfully in it, I sent it back! Head shaking, taking off, throwing himself around, shooting backwards, rearing... he is back in a bog standard eggbut French link now and his normal happy self again :)

I swapped my new boy from the SS eggbut he came with to a NS Starter and he loves it. He was a little bit taken aback the first day, but beautifully relaxed and accepting a contact after a couple of days.

It made a huge difference to my boy.

I don't think the metal makes a huge difference but the shape does. He has a transangle lozenge: very similar to a french link but he's far far happier in his NS bit.
